Sanskrit Name : Nirgundi
Latin Name : Vetex negundo
Habitat : All over India.
Morphology: A shrub or small tree.
Leaves : Tri or penta-foliolate;leaflets lanceolate,entire or crenate,glabrate,dark above and pale beneath,central leaflets larger.
Leaves on crushing give a typical smell.
Flowers : In lateral cymes,small,cluster,bluish purple.
Fruits : Drupaceous and black when ripe.
Leaflets : 9-17,opposite,sub opposite or alternate;lanceolate,acuminate,serrate or dentate,glabrous.
Flowers : Numerous,white,honey-scented.
Fruits : 1 seeded drupes,oblong,green and hard,on ripening it turns yellow and soft.
Seeds : Obovate or oblong.
Flowering and Fruiting : Between March-August.

Due to strong (pungent) odour,it is used as a mosquito and bed bug repellant.
Also prevents insect growth in stored food grains(insecticidal).
A parasitic plant grows on nirgundi in rainy season which is useful in mahakustha.

Also effective in guneaworm infestation.
In large doses it vitiates pitta and therefore causes pitta disorders.
