Sanskrit Name : Guduchi
Latin Name : Tinospora cordifolio
Habitat : It Is Available Throughout India.
cultivation-propagated By cutting Of stem.
It can be grown in almost any types of soil and under varying climatic conditions.
Morphology: (1)   T.cordifolio Miers(Menispermum Cordifolium Wilid).
It is a large climber with succulent,corky And grooved stems; branches possess slender pendulous fleshy roots.
Leaves : Membranous,glabrous,5-10 Cm Long,cordate;petiol 2.5-7 cm Long.
Flowers : In racemes of about 5 cm;auxillary,terminal or from the old wood,pale yellowish white in colour.
Fruits : Red,carpels,dorsally convex,ventrally flat,size of a large pea.
(2)   T.cinensis:(T.malabarica (Lam.) Miers) :
Leaves : Membranous,sparingly pubescent above,broadly ovate-cordate,8-24 cm long,petioles 6-14 cm long,striate.
Flowers : Arranged in psuedo racemes arising from the old branches,simple,pedunculate,yellowish green coloured.
Fruits : Drupes 1-3,scarlet or orange coloured.

It is described as one of the Medhya Rasayana(mental rejuvinative) in the Charak Samhita.
Those growing up Neem(Azadirachta indica) trees are said to be the best as the synergy between these two bitter plants enhances Guduchi's efficacy.

Varieties & Adulterants

In the original classical literature there is only one variety of Guduchi described.

Dhanvantari Nighantu introduced 2 varieties.

Guduchi and Kandodbhava Guduchi - Tinospora sinensis / T.malabarica.
Ganghadhar mentioned about Padma Guduchi in his commentary.
