Sanskrit Name : Kumari Latin Name : Aloe vera Habitat : Cultivated throughout India. Morphology : A Perennial plant with a short stem. Leaves - 30-60 cm long,erect,crowded in a basal rosette,juicy,glaucous-green,narrow,lanceolate,long acuminate,margins with spiny teeth. Flowers - yellow,in dense racemes terminating the scapes. Juice - fresh juice is obtained by crushing the white pulp of green leaves,It is sticky liquid of golden yellow colour. Dried juice - Aloes - solid mass of irregular shape and different sizes,dark chocolate to black colour,surface hard,opaque with slightly vitreous appearance. Flowers and Fruit at the end of winter.
